New Delhi, July 07: The 300th martyrdom day of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was observed in different parts of the country. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Sikh commander at a commemorative event in New Delhi. Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was the first Sikh General and the great warrior who established the first sikh empire in India and issued Nanak Shahi Coin. He abolished the feudal "Zamindari" system and granted property rights to tillers. He was captured and brutally killed by the Mughals in 1716. Paying homage to the commander, Modi said he was a great warrior and administrator. Modi also released a book on the life of Bahadur. A commemorative silver coin on the Sikh martyr was released last month by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
