In this video Dr. Judy Ho discusses brain wellness with Dr. Tonmoy Sharma, CEO Sovereign Health Group. A patient’s journey through drug and alcohol treatment begins with a full assessment. Most patients will be found to have some level of cognitive impairments which can be reversed with cognitive remediation. During treatment patients participate in a brain wellness program including an online program called Neurobic that they go through for 8 to 12 weeks. In classes they’re taught the basics of healthy nutrition and the importance that sleep plays in brain wellness. Young people often end up in treatment and have often led extremely hectic lives. The brain wellness programs offered can help return them to a lifestyle that is much more organized. Through brain health activities patients are shown how they can work to reverse the damage. It used to be that the medical community knew that the liver and skin are both organs than can regenerate. Today it is known that neurons can regenerate themselves. Dr. Sharma continues that we want patients to understand that, well okay you have caused this damage for whatever reason however it is now possible to do reverse the effects and go onto brain wellness. In fact, there is neuroplasticity at every age and ways to help that along. There is a solution and there is hope.
