BWV 626 Jesus Christus, unser Heiland, der den Tod überwand, Jesus Christ, our Savior, He who overcame Death
organ chorale/hymn prelude (originally by martyr Jan Hus),
James Pressler, virtual organ
1. Jesus Christus, unser Heiland,
Jesus Christ, our Savior,
Der den Tod überwand,
Who overcame Death,
Ist auferstanden,
Is risen
Die Sünd' hat er gefangen,
Sin has he imprisoned,
Kyrie eleison.
Lord have mercy on us.
2. Der ohn' Sünden ward gebor'n,
He who without Sins was born
Trug für uns Gott's Zorn,
Bore for us God's Wrath
Hat uns versöhnet,
Has us adopted as sons
Daß uns Gott sein Huld gönnet,
That God his Help grants us
Kyrie eleison.
Lord have mercy on us.
3. Tod, Sünd', Leben und Genad',
Death, Sin, Life and Grace,
All's in Händen er hat;
He has it all in hand,
Er kann erretten*,
He can deliver/rescue/save
Alle die zu ihm treten,
all who to him run,
Kyrie eleison.
Lord have mercy on us.
*=erretten carries with it the idea of violently tearing someone out of boundage in their rescue. Compare biazo/-mai in Matthew 11:12; Luke 16:16
