For the past 6 years, a cat named Browser has been working and living at the White Settlement Public Library near Fort Worth, Texas, notes ABC News.
The Dallas Morning News is reporting that despite his dedication, on June 14 the city council voted to oust Browser and gave him 30 days to vacate.
The cat was adopted from an animal shelter in 2010 to keep the library's mouse problem under control. According to ABC News, Browser has since taken on a number of additional responsibilities.
Those include listening while children practice reading aloud and posing for the library’s annual fundraising calendar.
Many in the community have come together to keep the cat right where he is, according to UPI.
Among them is the city’s mayor, Ron White, who believes Browser’s firing is based in petty vengeance, as a City Hall staffer was recently prohibited from having a dog at work.
He suggests the council should reconsider the decision.
