There are many wounds a person can experience, including burns, leg ulcers, and much more. Some wounds are easy to heal, whereas others require specialist wound care. If you are suffering due to a wound, what should you do?

• Care for the wound immediately – No matter how small the wound is, care for it immediately. If you don’t, bacteria will build up.

• Use water to clean the wound – Anything else could irritate the injury. Hold the wound under running water to get rid of the dirt. If any debris remains, use sterilised tweezers to get rid of it. Unless there is a large object embedded; this will require medical assistance.

• Know when to seek expert help – Some wounds won’t go away without medical assistance. The likes of leg ulcer treatment and surgical wound care are a must.

• Apply pressure if the wound starts to bleed – Surgical wounds can result in blood. If the wound does not stop bleeding, apply pressure using a clean cloth. Elevate the wound area, if possible, and apply pressure for twenty minutes.

• Keep an eye on the wound – If it is inflamed, red, or does not appear to be getting any better, seek expert wound care.
