Researchers in England say more needs to be done to prevent heart disease in diabetes patients. That's because a recent study suggested they are at a 50% greater risk of death from heart attack than people without the condition. According to UPI, researchers at the University of Leeds say in a new study that heart attack patients with diabetes are 50 percent more likely to die from its effects than people who do not have diabetes. After adjusting for age, sex, other illnesses, and treatment for their heart attack, people with diabetes were 56 percent more likely to die if they had total blockage of the coronary artery, and 39 percent more likely to die if they had a partial blockage of the coronary artery.
