Anton Yelchin was killed over the weekend after his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and pinned him against his gate.
Now, it has been revealed that the car was recalled.
According to The Associated Press, the Jeep was part of a global recall of 1.1 million vehicles announced by Fiat Chrysler in April.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urged the recall because of complaints from drivers that a problem with the gear shift made it difficult to tell whether the car was in park.
When not in park, the vehicle could roll away.
In a statement Monday, Fiat Chrysler expressed condolences to Yelchin’s friends and family, but said it was premature to speculate on the cause of his crash.
