CLEVELAND — A year after the Golden State Warriors overwhelmed the Cleveland Cavaliers to claim their first championship in 40 years, the two elite teams find themselves in the same position again, with the Cavs facing elimination on home court in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. Examining some of the statistics through the first five games of the series reveals that Cavaliers forward LeBron James has increased his production significantly across the board in comparison to his impressive regular season output. Meanwhile, Warriors guard Stephen Curry has done the opposite for the Warriors, his offensive production having dropped off compared to the regular season statistics that earned him the league’s Most Valuable Player award for the second consecutive year. Looking beyond the superstars, the statistics show their teams have each suffered a drop in production during these Finals when compared to their performance during the regular season. The statistics observed are points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, field goal percentage, and three-point field goal percentage for games one through five on the 2016 NBA Finals.
