Expo on handmade products from NE opens in New Delhi

New Delhi, June 06 (ANI): Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar and Minister-in-charge of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jitendra Singh, jointly inaugurated an exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts and handloom products from the North Eastern States, at Central Cottage Industries Emporium in New Delhi. 30 live artisans from across the region participated in the fortnight-long exhibition-cum-sale event that is on till June 12. Products made of bamboo, cane, sandalwood, muga silk, including hand woven Mekhla-Chador from Assam and handcrafted stone pottery from Manipur, were on display. The initiative aims to develop entrepreneurship through various capacity building measures, and will also train people to work efficiently on high-end garment machines. On the occasion, Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Dr Jitendra Singh also launched a Coffee Table book titled "Celebrating Cottage - A Tribute to Indian Crafts and Craftpersons" and a "Cottage Mobile App".
