A Michigan Court of Appeals panel has ruled that Barbara Pellow should be liable for up to $2 million in damages related to a fire her boyfriend caused in 2012 when he tried to cook a squirrel he had caught; the decision overturns a previous lower court ruling limiting her financial responsibility to just over $15,000.
A fire from 2012 could cost a woman as much as $2 million after all, according to a recent appeals court decision.
The original incident occurred on October 10th when a Michigan man wanted to cook a squirrel he had caught so he burned off its fur with a torch.
However, he reportedly left the device still lit on the deck, and when he came back outside, the area was on fire.
Ultimately, 32 units were damaged, and repair costs totaled around $2 million.
