This week on the Softonic Roundup we anticipate next week’s Google Event and check out Apples AppStore and iOS 9 woes. If that isn’t enough, we also have Pokemon GO, and more. Next Tuesday, that’s 29 September, Google has announced it will be holding an event – and we are guessing the focus will be on the companies Nexus phones. One large part of this would be that LG and Huawei look to be set to begin producing their own Nexus phones – the 5X and 6P – to give users even more ways to get a ‘Driod in their pocket. There is also talk of a new Chromecast with Spotify integration, improved WiFi, and probably dozens more improvements for our enjoyment. What is clear is that Google’s new CEO, Sundai Pichar, will be center stage as Google sets out to separate itself form its parent company Alphabet. We will keep you informed. iOS 9 is here, and this week iPhone and iPad users have been able to start trying the new OS. The update includes a selection of improvements, including a new search tool to more easily find apps and settings. There is also a new energy saving mode that can turn your phone off when it reaches 20% battery and the whole OS promises to be more efficient. A new smarter Siri has also been made more useful, and will happily make suggestions of what you may want to do based on the contacts and apps you use most. Also, if you have the latest iPad, you can now run two applications at a time. There is also bad news for Apple this week, as the company suffers its first malware major attack on its AppStore. Some apps have been infected with malware after being developed on an unofficial platform instead of the official Xcode. One of the most popular applications that has been affected is WeChat, although there has now been a clear version of the app released. Last week also saw Nintendo announce a new president, Tatsumi Kimishima, after the untimely death of Sitoro Iwasta. Kimishima began with the company in 2000 where te took the role of president of Pokemon USA, before becoming president of Nintendo USA in 2002, and company CEO. Talking of Pokemon, last week saw everyone discussing Pokemon GO, after the release of an official video outlining this new augmented reality game from, Niantic, the developers of Ingress. This ARG will have you hunting your town to track down and capture Pokemon for your collection in order to battle other trainers around your city. It is a great idea with tons of potential and already has Pokemon Snap fans really excited. While little is known about the game itself yet, there will be a bracelet peripheral to go along with it which will vibrate very time a wild Pokémon is near. Get ready to catch-em-all next year. This week will also see the launch of FIFA 16, just one week after PES 2016’s launch lasts week. We are preparing a comparison video for them now, which should make up next week’s edition of our game show – Click Swipe Play, keep an eye on that to find out which game will take home the 2016 cup. Plus for all of you who like to be up to date Office 2016 is out tomorrow – find out more at Softonic.com. I will be back on Friday with 5 apps you have to try this week. See you then.
