Pauri, May 22 (ANI): Another massive forest fire broke out in Uttarakhand yesterday. Fire department officials struggled to douse the blaze in Pauri district even as they continued in their efforts to put it out till the evening. Smoke from the fire raised temperatures in the region as well as deteriorated the air quality, causing breathing problems for the locals. District Collector of Pauri, Chandrashekhar Bhatt, said forest fires in the last few weeks have damaged over 1,000 hectares of land. Such fires have also put wildlife in the woods under serious threat. Rising temperatures and prolonged dry spells make forests more vulnerable to fire.
