Varanasi, May 21 (ANI): Buddhists in India celebrated Buddha Purnima with much fervour on Saturday. Buddha Purnima falls on a full moon day and marks the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha. It is also commemorated as the day of his enlightenment and death. Hindus thronged the banks of River Ganges in Varanasi town and offered prayers. According to Hindu belief, anyone taking a dip the River Ganges on the occasion of Buddha Purnima attains salvation and rids himself from the cycle of rebirth.
