Protest in Kathmandu turns violent, 3 protesters injured in scuffle

Nepal, May 17 (ANI): Protesters were severely injured in a scuffle between anti-constitution protesters and rioting police in Kathmandu on Monday. The federal alliance or the Sanghiya Gathabandhan, formed by the Madhesis and Janajati forces, blamed the government for crackdown on the protesters who were staging a peaceful protest in Maitighar Mandala.Meanwhile, protesters chanted anti-government slogans demanding rewriting of the Constitution.Nepal, which has witnessed a decade long insurgency and a devastating earthquake last year, faced interruption in trade at the Nepal- India border due to the protests by Madhesi community. The unrest and protest in southern plains of Nepal, which lasted for eight months, claimed 50 lives. Members of Madhesi community and it allies are staging a week-long protest in the Capital Kathmandu to press the government to address their various demands.The federal alliance has vowed to continue with the protest unless the government fulfills their demands.
