The 69th Cannes Film Festival officially kicked off on Wednesday evening in the French sea resort of Cannes, with 21 films competing for awards.
Following the red carpet ceremony, in which the jury and crew of the opening film were presented to the public, the opening ceremony, hosted by French comedian Laurent Lafitte, took place in the Film Festival Palace.
