At the request of National Jewish Heath, ORC International Telephone CARAVAN placed calls to just over 1000 grown-ups and asked which options from a list of symptoms were related to asthma.
Nearly half of respondents failed to recognize chest pain and trouble sleeping as indicators.
The presence of a persistent cough was also missed by a notable percentage.
