A UK footballer missed out on the glory of scoring a 40-yard goal on Saturday, May 7, when the referee and his assistants failed to see the shot hit the target. Joe Noblet, a midfielder with Squires Gate, took the shot during a game with Ashton Athletic in Wigan, Lancashire. It was disallowed, despite hitting the back stanchion and rebounding back out of the Ashton Athletic goal, as seen at 78 seconds in this video.
The uploader, Mark Ashmore, said that the goal would have been very significant. “This goal could have cost Squires Gate FC their place in the NWCFL Premier Division,” he said. “With five clubs still able to be relegated including Squires Gate, the goal could have been costly had Joe Noblet not scored again.” Credit: YouTube/Mark Ashmore
