Surat, May 07 (ANI): Fruit traders who sell forcefully ripened fruits with the help of carbide are in trouble as officials on Gujrat's Surat distict have seized huge quantities of Calcium carbide ripened mangoes from vendors. Calcium carbide is a corrosive chemical and contains traces of arsenic and phosphorous hydride. Early symptoms of arsenic or phosphorus poisoning include vomiting, diarrhoea with or without blood, burning sensation of chest and abdomen, thirst, weakness, permanent eye damage, ulcers on skin and shortness of breath. CaC2 is banned in many countries since it has carcinogenic properties.
