New Delhi, May 03 (ANI): Embattled liquor barren Vijay Mallya, who is facing allegations of money laundering, resigned from the upper house of Parliament. Mallya had left the country last month amid pressure from lenders to repay over Rs 90 billion owed by his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. He sent his resignation to the Ethics Panel of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament which had earlier recommended that he be expelled. Indian political parties said strict action needed to be taken against Mallya despite his resignation from Rajya Sabha. The Foreign Ministry had suspended Mallya's passport on April 15, effective for four weeks. Mallya insists he has not absconded.
