Barnala: Debt-ridden farmer, mother commit suicide in presence of police

Barnala, Apr 27 (ANI): Unable to pay back loan, a farmer and his mother committed suicide by consuming disinfectant in front of police officials in Punjab’s Barnala district yesterday. 30-year-old farmer Baljeet Singh and his 60 year-old mother Balveer Kaur had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh from an agent by mortgaging two acres of land. The agent sued Baljeet when the loan was not paid back on time. When the police and the civil administration reached the place to seize their land, they ended their lives by consuming disinfectant. A case has been registered and the bodies have been sent for postmortem for further probe. Superintendent of police, Swarnjeet Singh said that court had passed the orders for seizing their land. Revenue officials and police officials had gone to the spot after the court orders.
