Jack Higgins has a real Billy Elliot moment - Week 2 Auditions - Britain’s Got Talent 2016
Teen Bullied for Ballet Stuns on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’
Jack Higgins, a 14-year-old ballet dancer, impressed both the judges and audience on Britain’s Got Talent this weekend – but really stunned them when he opened up about his bullying.
His athletic, gymnastic performance to A Great Big World’s ‘Say Something (I’m Giving Up On You)’ was already a winner before Higgins admitted that life wasn’t exactly easy as a young boy taking up ballet.
“People was calling me names,” he told the judges. “Getting bullied, saying I was gay and I danced like a girl and ballet was for girls.”
Judge and comedian David Walliams echoed what we’re all thinking by calling it “a Billy Elliot moment,” but, perhaps surprisingly, it was the caustic Simon Cowell that had the best response:
“You know the one thing that bullies don’t like?” he asked. “They don’t like it when you do well. I can see how hard you’ve worked for this moment and I congratulate you Jack.”
