Monolith festival showcases rich cultural heritage of Khasi tribe in Meghalaya

Meghalaya, Apr 17 (ANI): Dressed in colorful traditional attires these men and women thronged the famous Khasi heritage village-Mawphlang in East Khasi hills district to celebrate 'Monolith Festival'.The festival is a cultural extravaganza to showcase and display the unique traditions through dances, music, handicrafts, cuisines and attires of the Khasi Tribe. During the festival, cultural troupe of Himas performed their traditional dance and folk song accompanied by various types of drums and flutes to enthrall the audience. It has attracted many foreign tourists. During the event, handloom and handicraft stalls, organic vegetables and food stall were also set up which reflects the rich culture of the tribe. Varieties of products like cane mats, stools, baskets and decorative items attracted a large number of visitors. Later, an ethnic fashion show was also held where models walked the ramp and showcased beautiful traditional attires of various tribes of Meghalaya. The Khasis inhabit the eastern part of Meghalaya. Organizing such festival not only brings people together at one platform but also promote tourism in the state.
