ORLANDO — A Florida man is being held without bond after he murdered an acquaintance with an ax in front of several friends over a fight about a $50 lottery ticket, police said.

John Henry Stubbs, 69, died after the ax attack allegedly carried out by Joseph Robinson, 48, in an Orlando residence last Friday afternoon.

The Daily News reported that one of Stubbs' daughters, Shelia Stubbs, said Stubbs and Robinson were hanging out at a friend's house playing cards and dominoes.

Stubbs had won $50 on a lottery ticket, and asked Robinson to run to a nearby store to claim the money, Stubbs' daughter said. However, when Robinson returned, he only came back with a beer for himself.

Stubbs then got upset and slapped Robinson twice, according to Stubbs' daughter.

Robinson walked away, but then came back with an ax, Sheila Stubbs said.

Witnesses told WFLA that Robinson then proceeded to strike Stubbs twice with the ax on the head and in the neck in front of nearly a dozen friends playing dominoes.

Robinson has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.
