Flim and Flam return and are up to their usual shenanigans! This time, theyre selling a magical elixir that can cure all ills. Applejack is skeptical, but when the tonic apparently gives Granny Smith a new lease on life, she isnt sure what is the truth. However, she finds out it is a sham (big surprise), but is only faced with a greater dilemma: let Granny continue to believe the tonic is working, or tell the truth and potentially devastate her. When Granny Smith gets a little too out-of-control with her new-found youthful feeling and attempts an insane stunt from her youth, Applejack knows she must buck up and tell the truth about the Flim Flam brothers lie. and hers!\r

This was a fantastic Applejack episode by (slightly less of a newcomer now) Josh Haber, and one that actually deals with her element—honesty—directly. So far this has been my favorite part of all the key episodes this season: the fact that they really challenge the characters and their elements, and even show them the bad side their elements can have. Here, we have Applejack being put into a situation where telling the truth to Granny Smith about the fake tonic after shes gotten a new lease on life could devastate her. But on the other hand, AJ of course is no fan of lying, and finds out first hand of its consequences as it spirals out-of-control. Like other key episodes, we also get a sort-of double lesson. Applejack learns a new lesson about her element: that sometimes the truth can hurt, but most of the time it hurts less than the lie you use to cover it up. In addition to AJ learning a lesson about honesty, she also inadvertently teaches it to another pony, with Silver Shill learning what it means to be honest, and the pain that lying can bring. Its great to see all of the key episodes following this formula, as it really ties the season together while still keeping the episodes standing on their own. Speaking of that. five down. ONE to go!\r

But no—Thats not all! We also have a new Flim Flam Bros. song! And wow—its actually been quite a few episodes since the last song this season. This one is extremely similar in style and content to the last Flim Flam number, but still remains different and fun. Its amazing how many different styles of songs weve had this season!\r

Its another Flim Flam song! Its in a similar style to their previous song from Season 2. This one has a little more of a carnival vibe to it, fitting the different setting. Switching things up a bit, this song has a slower and emotional bridge section to it before the chorus come in. Speaking of that, this is one of the few songs as of late that utilizes a chorus, with the only other this season being Pinkie the Party Planner from Pinkie Pride. Its great to hear more of these crowd songs—the music always takes on a sudden grand feeling when the chorus joins in, not to mention it fits the herd mentality that the writer is trying to convey as happening here. And I really thought the crowd was chanting cider again at first right after that bridge. (this time, theyre chanting tonic.)\r

This song and entire sequence seem to be a sort-of homage to the song sequence Passamaquaddy from Petes Dragon. Look it up on Youtube and youll see the similarities.\r
On another note, this is one of the longest songs of the series. Depending on how you slice it, its about the same length as Find a Pet and only slightly shorter than the current longest song, the Flim Flam Bros. previous The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000.\r
