KARAWANG, INDONESIA — An Indonesian singer took passion for her craft to the extreme, choosing to continue performing even after being bitten by a deadly reptile — and paying for her decision with her life.
Irma Bule was known to sing and dance with snakes during her performances, and her stint at a village in west Java was no different, reports Rappler.
Instead of her usual pythons and boa constrictors, the 29-year-old singer performed with a highly venomous and not yet defanged king cobra on Sunday night.
She accidentally stepped on its tail during a song, prompting the snake to attack and bite her in the thigh.
Instead of seeking medical attention, witnesses say Irma didn't seem affected by the bite, even refusing an antidote from the snake handler. She carried on with the show and sang for another 45 minutes before the venom took effect. She started vomiting and having seizures and was rushed to the hospital, where she died soon after.
