French police broke up a protest in the early morning hours of Friday, April 1, in the Paris Place de la Republique, against the reform of French labor laws, part of a series of demonstrations that have drawn hundreds of thousands to the streets across the country this week. This protest, called Nuit Debout, which roughly translates as ‘One Night Stand’, stretched into a second day, prompting police to intervene.
The French government has backed off its original intent to change the country’s labor laws, which the protesters say would re-orient them too much in favor of business and the wealthy. Credit: YouTube/Fermín Grodira
