About 1,600 cute paper-made panda sculptures are on display at a shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand, attracting large crowds of visitors from all around the world.
"1600 Pandas +", a papier-mache artwork created by French artist Paulo Grangeon for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) came to Thailand in early march as part of its world exhibition tour which began in 2008 with an aim of raising awareness of panda conservation as well as sustainable development.
The 1,600 pandas, each with its own expression and personality, represent the number of pandas left in the wild. Designers first made the models with clay, wrapped them up with thick waster paper and then carved, colored and dried them. It takes 45 days to finish the whole process. The designers meticulously drew the pandas' eyes in order to make them look nice and cute.
"It's very special to see Chinese pandas appear in Bangkok, Thailand," said a Hong Kong tourist.
"I'm getting soft, you know, as a father with children. Its the same feeling more or less pandas, you know, an animal that we all have to take care of," said a Danish tourist.
The tour show has been to the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and South Korea since 2008.
The Thailand tour show is expected to conclude on April 10.
