Feds mistake 9-year-old service dog named Dash for ISIS terrorist

SAN FRANCISCO — While trying to pay for his dog's walking fees at the beginning of March, a San Francisco man's online payment was blocked because the dog's name resembles that of a terrorist organization.

Bruce Francis, 55, was transferring $374 from his bank account to his dog walker, as he's done every month for years, reported the New York Daily News. He wrote 'For Dash' in the memo line, since his dog's name is Dash.

Chase Bank thought the memo was suspicious — apparently equating the word Dash with Daesh — and flagged the transfer for review by the U.S. Treasury Department. Daesh is essentially another word for ISIS but less favored among ISIS militants.

After his dog walker told him she never received his check, Francis looked at his bank account and saw a message that said "Please explain what 'for Dash' means." Although his dog's moniker bears some resemblance to the terrorist group's, the pitbull mix reportedly has no links to ISIS. Francis was quick to call the Feds and get things straightened out.

In light of the recent terrorist attacks, Francis told the New York Daily News that a temporary inconvenience is okay if it helps law enforcement.
