A pipe bomb exploded in an alley in the southern California city of Anaheim at about 13:50 Sunday, causing minor damage and forcing the evacuation of some nearby homes.
Local residents reported the incident to the police after hearing a loud noise and seeing white smoke rising from the alley.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the explosion, which occurred five kilometers away from the Disneyland theme park.
A preliminary inspection by bomb squad personnel determined there had been a pipe bomb blast and that it had charred and damaged a concrete wall and a utility pole.
Nearby homes were evacuated after the explosion, with residents allowed to return home shortly after.
The incident is still under investigation.
