Held every September just north of Reno, the National Championship Air Races have become an institution for northern Nevada and aviation enthusiasts from around the world. The Reno Air Races features six racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civil flight demonstrations. The 2015 event attracted more than 150,000 spectators and was the subject of an NBC Sports show filmed by JM Associates. The footage captures the excitement of wing tip to wing tip aircraft racing at speeds above 500 mph. Sponsorship of the NBC Sports special was generously provided by the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority as the Presenting Sponsor, and the Nevada Commission on Tourism, STIHL, Lewis Air Legends, NASA and the University of Nevada, Reno as the Gold Sponsors.
