Blogger Benjamin Millam built a special machine for his cat called Monkey so that it can hunt inside the apartment. Benjamin hides plastic balls with RFID tags/chips inside everywhere at home. The cat must look for them and as soon as one is found it brings them to put it in a funnel of automatic food dispenser. The dispenser reader detects the RFID signal and the cat automatically receives a ration of food. This machine allows for a more active and healthy lifestyle for the cat that does not have the opportunity to hunt his food in a outdoor environment.
Benjamin said that everything started after reading an article detailing why cats explore many times the same areas. It needs to establish and monitor their territory but also to hunt in the hope of getting food. He then imagined and created this system allowing the cat to hunt within the apartment.
Ingenious isn't it ?
