The Anti-Defamation League Is Redirecting Trump Donations to Anti-Bias Groups
Ahead of Donald Trump‘s planned speech to AIPAC tomorrow, the Anti-Defamation League has announced that it will be giving the total sum of all of Trump’s donations to anti-bias and anti-bullying programs.
The ADL has received a total of $56,000 in donations from Trump and the Trump Foundation over the years, but CEO Jonathan Greenblatt is now saying, “In light of the recent campaign, we have decided to redirect the total amount of funds that he contributed to ADL over the years specifically into anti-bias education programs that address exactly the kind of stereotyping and scapegoating that have been injected into this political season.”
The group has been critical of Trump during the campaign, including the initial controversy about his white supremacist supporters, but the ADL is now taking a major stand against Trump.
A group of rabbis will be boycotting Trump’s speech tomorrow, and Greenblatt writes in Time that’s not surprising because “the Jewish community has long placed a premium on promoting values of tolerance and building a pluralistic and more diverse society—values that seem at odds with Trump’s message on the campaign trail.”
And he’s calling on other Jewish groups to join in:
I call on other Jewish groups—and any other philanthropies and non-profits—also to redirect any funds that may have been given to them by Trump and use them for similar initiatives to combat hate, promote tolerance, and build a stronger American community. They are welcome to support our No Place for Hate program.
