The Boat is (literally and figuratively) a vehicle for the silent film comic genius Buster Keaton. One of his finest short films, The Boat is one of those tales where everything goes wrong. Buster has built a boat, but it’s too big to get out of the basement and he destroys the house while trying! Taking his family with him, Keaton eventually gets to the sea and from there the problems never stop. The anchor floats and the life preserver sinks! Keaton brings his excellent physical comedy and prop gags into ever cleverer situations as the voyage continues. The Boat effectively spotlights Keaton’s talents, and the fun and gags never flag.
