Gurgaon, Mar 09 (ANI): Addressing the Global Investor Summit in Gurgaon, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said as many as 23 ongoing infrastructure projects in Haryana would cost around 1.4 billion USD. The two-day summit, which was inaugurated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday, would see participation from 12 countries. The event comes close on the heels of violent protests by a rural caste demanding reservation in jobs and education, which left at least 30 people dead and destroyed property worth millions of dollars. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the province ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party had signed 357 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth USD 15 billion. The Haryana government is holding the event in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry. Days of rioting and looting across Haryana last month by the Jat community had challenged Modi's promise of better days. Thousands of troops were deployed to quell the protests and disruption had been huge with business losses estimated at up to $5 billion by one regional lobby group.
