Just hours after the US sanctioned a dozen people and five organisations tied to North Korea’s nuclear program, South Korea’s defence ministry said its northern neighbour fired short-range projectiles into the sea off its east coast. US spokesman John Kirby could not confirm whether Pyongyang had fired the missiles but said it’s ‘typical of the kind of response that we have seen from them in the past’.
