Chandigarh, March 4, 2016: A national conference on innovation in governance ‘eLets Punjab Summit-2016’ was organized in Chandigarh city of Punjab recently. The conference was inaugurated by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal. The conference aimed at encouraging financial inclusion, healthcare, governance and education with the use of information technology. Governments around the world are encouraging and promoting e-governance for better services and reaching out to people across all corners. E-Governance is a unique initiative to connect both urban and rural citizens with the Government and to provide them better facilities and hassle-free services Punjab Deputy Chief Minister deliberated on how Punjab’s model of e-governance attracted worldwide attention. Encouraging the use of information technology is part of the Digital India mission. Digital India, a flagship programme launched by the government of India in July last year ensured that government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity. Various Indian States are taking steps in this direction to improve digital connectivity. eLets Punjab Summit-2016 helped in spreading awareness about the various steps undertaken by the government of Punjab in e-governance domain. Such events not only promote the state’s efforts in digital India mission but encourage other states to follow suit.
