PHILADELPHIA — A cat blind stray cat Philadelphia has conquered the odds time and time again in his short life, and has now lived long enough for his tale to be told.
Four-year-old ginger cat Mr. Magoo used to wander the streets of south Philly, barely able to see due to microphthalmia, a pre-birth condition which results in small eyeballs. Taken off the streets in 2013, animal control put "Goo" on the kill list because they ran out of room in their shelter. Not only that, but the cat had also developed an infection that had him suffering from nosebleeds and ulcers in his mouth.
Fortunately for Mr. Magoo, a Facebook post by the Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary caught the attention of a couple who were moved by his harrowing tale, and soon, the squinty-eyed kitty had found a family to call his own.
A book series was recently published about his life, entitled "Magoo Who? Life Through My Eyes." Lately he's been drawing plenty of eyeballs on Instagram and Facebook for his kooky fashion sense, donning jumbo bow ties. With 645 followers and growing, this cat's fast becoming an inspiration for animals with special needs.
