Hugo Alfvén (1872-1960) is one of the most important Swedish art composers. Along his long life he composed in many genres, including ballets, symphonies and poems from which the Swedish Rhapsody “Midsummer evening” is the most famous. In 1908, he composed a piece to commemorate the life and times of Swedish king Oscar II (1872-1905), who was an excellent patron of the arts and master of international diplomacy. This poem, carrying the name Drapa, became thus a posthumous ode to the deceased monarch.
Hugo Alfvén (1872-1960) es uno de los compositores suecos más importantes. Durante su larga vida, compuso en diferentes géneros, incluyendo ballets, sinfonías y poemas de los cuales la Rapsodia Sueca No.1 es el más famoso. En 1908, compuso una pieza para conmemorar la vida y obra del rey sueco Óscar II (1872-1905), quien fuera un excelente patrono de las artes y maestre de la diplomacia internacional. Este poema, que lleva el título Drapa, representa una oda póstuma al monarca desaparecido.
