Betty Boop: Be Human (1936) - Classic Cartoon

Be Human is a 1936 Fleischer Studios animated short film starring Betty Boop and Grampy.\r
\r
Betty Boop is incensed at her farmer neighbors cruelty to his animals. But the inventive Grampy knows how to teach him a lesson.\r
\r
The abusive farmer has been compared to Billy Joe Gregg, who abused numerous cows and calves at the Conklin Dairy Farms in Ohio in 2010.[1]\r
\r
Be Human has been criticized for depicting the harsh punishment of the abusive farmer as being commendable.\r
\r
The cartoon features the song Be Human sung by Betty Boop accompanying herself on piano. Instrumental renditions of the song are also prominent throughout the cartoon. When the animal-abusing farmer winds up on Grampys punishment treadmill, a phonograph recording of Grampys voice is heard singing the song.\r

Song Lyrics:\r
Theres a very simple lesson,\r
But its easy to forget;\r
And I promise, youll regret it if you do.\r
\r
That if youre always kind and gentle\r
With your family pet,\r
Hell be just as kind and gentle\r
With you.\r
\r
Be human, animals can cry;\r
Be human, its easy if you try.\r
Dont go around with a heart of stone,\r
Or youll be sorry and all alone.\r
\r
Be human, have a tender word,\r
For every animal and bird!\r
\r
If we would all be human,\r
This world would be in rhyme;\r
So be human all the time!\r
\r
Share a tasty carrot with your parrot,\r
Serve your chimpanzee a piece of cheese;\r
Sip a sasperilla with your camel or gorilla,\r
With kind regards to all of them from me.\r
\r
Be human, animals can cry;\r
Be human, wont you even try?\r
Dont think youre wonderful just because\r
You werent born with a tail and claws.\r
\r
Be human, have a tender word,\r
For every animal and bird!\r
\r
Its futile to be brutal,\r
That wont get you a dime;\r
So be human all the time!\r
\r
A true cat cant be human,\r
But you can!
