NEW YORK — Donald Trump is suing Univision for $500 million after they decided not to air the Miss USA pageant following racist statements he made regarding Mexicans during his presidential candidacy announcement. \r
\r
When Mexico sends its people theyre not sending their best and theyre bringing those problems with us, Trump said in his speech. Theyre bringing drugs. Theyre bringing crime. Theyre rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.\r
\r
Calling Mexicans drug smugglers and rapists is a surefire way to piss off largest Spanish-language television network in the world. Its no surprise that Univision pulled the plug on the event co-owned by Trump. \r
\r
NBC was next to turn the tables on Trump and hit him with his own jackass catchphrase. NBC is also refusing to air the pageant on July 11, which by the way is now without a host after Cheryl Burke and Thomas Roberts both pulled out. \r
\r
Despite the pushback, Trump isnt backing down. He reiterated his comments on Twitter. I love the Mexican people, but Mexico is not our friend, he tweeted. \r
\r
Meanwhile, Mexican businessman Carlos Slim, has decided to cut his ties with the presidential doubtful mogul. \r
\r
Trump is suing Univision for $500 million, claiming their decision to not air the pageant, according to their contract, was politically motivated to suppress his freedom of speech.\r
