Phoenix family adopts dog with no paws from South Korea

A terrible case of animal abuse half a world away will have a happy ending in Phoenix.

Animal welfare activists in South Korea rescued a 2-year-old golden retriever mix from a black trash bag on the street.

They said she was part of an underground dog-meat market, but was thrown out after her paws became wounded and infected. The "butcher" thought her meat would be rancid, according to the rescuers.

The group named her Chi Chi.

Her paws were in such bad shape that all four of them, along with portions of her legs, had to be amputated.

Chi Chi survived her surgery and is learning to walk again with the help of prosthetics.

A family in Phoenix plans to adopt her in March.

"The more we heard about it, the more we wanted to be involved," Richard Howell said.
