A cat that was rescued late Monday night after a number of days wandering the subway system has gained some fame in New York City.
He's being called "Subway Dunford" after the husband of the woman who made a number of calls to 311 and documented the rescue efforts on social media that night.
Neighbors reported the meowing feline along East 138th Street at Willis Avenue to 311 over the weekend.
The 6 train in the Mott Haven saw brief delays Sunday night for a quick check of the tunnels near the station at Third Avenue.
NYPD and Transit Crews assisted local animal rescue volunteers who left a trap with some food.
The cat is now in the care of Magnificat Cat Rescue and Rehousing. The workers will take the cat to the veterinarian and then put him up for adoption.
