A Kalamazoo man was charged Monday with six counts of open murder, two counts of assault with intent to commit murder and eight counts of felony firearm in connection with a mass shooting spree Saturday that left six people dead.
Jason Dalton, who is expected to be formally arraigned this afternoon on the charges, was arrested about 12:45 a.m. ET Sunday when a Kalamazoo County sheriff’s deputy spotted a car matching the description of the shooter’s vehicle exiting a parking lot at a downtown Kalamazoo bar.
The deputy stopped the car and the man was arrested peacefully.
A semi-automatic handgun was found in the car.
