BOISE, IDAHO — A driver who flew through the window of his vehicle after crashing during a high-speed police chase has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Idaho State Police released dashcam footage from April 2015 of Jose Manuel Sanchez, 32, driving erratically and flipping his truck over on the side of the highway.
Sanchez even got up and tried to run away from the scene of the wreckage before police caught him with the help of two civilians who stopped to assist the authorities.
It all started as a traffic stop. KTVB reported that Sanchez at first complied with police, but then turned his truck around and rammed the officer's vehicle, trapping his leg in the door.
A high-speed chase ensued, which was caught on Idaho State Police Trooper Kenny Walker's dashcam.
According to Walker, Sanchez was thrown some 15 to 20 feet into the air after crashing his vehicle on the side of the highway.
Following the crash, the officer tackled Sanchez, who was arrested and charged with felony battery, felony eluding or fleeing police, and possession of methamphetamine.
Idaho State Police issued Certificates of Appreciation to the two civilians who helped police detain Sanchez.
