A cliff collapsed just outside of Christchurch as a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the area on Sunday, February 14. Locals shared photos and videos on social media of dust clouds hanging around the cliffs at Taylors Mistake shortly after a section broke off and crashed into the sea.

The earthquake struck shortly after 1:00 p.m., causing shelves to collapse in homes, shops and libraries, and buildings to be evacuated.
