Despite how it looks like no one planned on this, provoking the avalanche was entirely intentional. It’s done in places where there’s a high risk of it happening naturally, but this allows it to be both controlled and for the cleanup, such as the plowing of roads, to be done when they need to be done. It’s a little safer than leaving it up to nature. Just a little.
