Marinko Jareb is a sol-man. The north St. Catharines disc jockey is harnessing the power of the sun to power his sound system. “I think that every business has the responsibility to reduce its carbon footprint,” Jareb said of the motivation behind using renewable energy to charge up a battery pack that he uses to power his DJ equipment. Jareb uses 25- or 100-watt solar panels to charge the battery pack. When fully charged, he said the battery pack will give him enough juice to run his equipment for about six hours. He can tote the equipment around in a cart towed by a bicycle. He said Niagara Solar Sound System’s target market is outdoor events where electricity is not readily available.
