Gary Bettman has a six-year extension to remain as NHL commissioner.
The deal, which runs through 2022, was signed in September but was first reported and confirmed by sources Sunday.
As has been his way, Bettman's contract extensions rarely get announced.
Bettman, 63, took over as NHL commissioner back on Feb. 1, 1993, presiding over large revenue growth and expansion but also controversial labor battles in 1994-95, 2004-05 and 2012-13, cancelling the entire season in 2004-05 in order to get the players to accept a salary cap.
