A dog was rescued earlier this week after Arizona Department of Transportation employees spotted her crossing a busy highway on their traffic cameras; she has since been handed over to an animal organization.
When a state employee spotted a dog wandering onto a busy road, he knew he had to act.
The incident occurred a few days ago when Gil Estrada with the Arizona Department of Transportation, or ADOT, was monitoring traffic in Phoenix when he saw the puppy crossing State Route 51.
He recalls, “It was hard to watch. The dog kept getting so close to being hit.”
Employees then watched her try to jump onto the concrete median wall 15 to 20 times before she succeeded; one coworker said about this, “Once she did, she kind of just sat there for dear life.”
Estrada soon got into his car, drove to the site several miles away, and picked her up.
He
