COLUMBIA, MISSOURI — The University of Missouri Communication professor who shot to internet stardom after she was filmed suggesting that a student reporter be forcibly removed from a campus protest last fall has been charged with third degree assault for her actions.

Melissa Click faces up to 15 days in jail and up to a $500 fine if she gets charged with assault, reports ABC 17. According to Click's lawyers, she will plead not guilty to that charge.

Interim Chancellor at Mizzou says that a task force made of up school administrators, MUPD and students will determine if other actions will be taken, which is most likely referring to whether or not she keeps her appointment as an assistant professor at the university. Click has been able to keep her job for the time being.

Missouri state legislators have not been as forgiving and called for her resignation earlier this month. According to a letter written and signed by state representatives, Click's current research pursuits are now facing scrutiny as well.
